Water festival is the biggest festival in many countries like Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia as well as Yunnan, China. In some countries it is call ‘Songkran’ festival.
Actually it is the New Year's celebrations which people splash / pour water at one another as part of the cleansing ritual to welcome the New Year, That’s why Westerns called the 'Water Festival'.
Normally water festival falls around 13 -15 April but this year in most of the countries except Laos, Laos celebrates the Laos New Year from 14 – 16 April.
Khao San Road is the biggest place to water during Songkran festival in Bangkok. Is the place to be for all-out street fights with thousands of Thais and foreigners armed with water guns.
Besides Khao San Road in Bangkok, Silom Road is a new place to play water as well as Chiang Mai, Pattaya and Phuket. Luang Prabang, Laos; Yangon, Myanmar and Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
